The oud is an ancient, fretless, short necked string instrument. There is a remarkable gallery of ornate ouds from many nations at the Musical Instrument Museum (USA), a place all music lovers should see if possible. Oud expert George Mgrdichian, also known as Aram Arakelian, brought the oud outside of traditional music and into jazz in America.
